Summary
Intraperitoneal injection of CCI4 causes reduction in hepatic glucuronide conjugating capacity of the guinea pig as measured by p-nitrophenol glucuronide formation in vitro. This reduction is apparent in 24 hours but is demonstrable as early as 2 hours after injection. Glucuronyl transferase activity of isolated microsomes however is not diminished. Therefore, reduction in hepatic glucuronide conjugation induced by CCI4 is due to a quantitative change in microsomal transferase activity rather than to a qualitative one.
