Abstract
Summary
A modified method of assaying maximum phosphoglucomutase activity in crude muscle homogenates is presented. Mutase activity is significantly decreased in leg muscles of mice with muscular dystrophy whether determined as total enzyme activity (at infinite coenzyme concentration) or as residual enzyme-coenzyme activity (in the absence of added coenzyme). Evidence is presented for a decrease in coenzyme content of dystrophic muscle and for a correlation of these enzyme changes with age of mice and severity of myopathy.
