Abstract
Summary
2DG inhibits cleavage and oxygen consumption of sea-urchin eggs. High concentrations inhibit cleavage and oxygen uptake at early stages and low concentrations inhibit at later stages of development. The effect of 2DG was counteracted by excess glucose which suggests that 2DG affects cleavage by competitively inhibiting glucose metabolism.
