Extracts of the stalk-median eminence area of beef or rat brain produce a specific release of ACTH in rats with hypothalamic lesions. The major portion of this effect is due to a corticotrophin-releasing factor. Ten to 20% of the activity of these extracts appears to be due to vasopressin.
