Summary
D-alanine, but not L-alanine, competitively reverses the inhibitory action of cycloserine on S. faecalis cells that are synthesizing cell wall substance. Both cycloserine and penicillin can inhibit cells that are not growing but that are making cell wall substance. However, they differ in mode of action.
