Abstract
Summary
Carbonic anhydrase was found in the caiman (C. laitrostris) erythrocytes, kidney, gastric mucosa, pancreas and hind-brain. No activity, however, was found in the lens. The enzyme was also found in the alligator (A. mississipiensis) choroid plexus and ciliary processes. Carbonic anhydrase inhibition in the alligator caused a long-lasting rise of plasma total CO2 but no certain change of anterior aqueous total CO2 was observed.
