Summary
The melanin isolated from feathers of turkey poults injected with DL-lysine-2-C14 was radioactive. Part of the radioactivity was lost when melanin was autoclaved with 6N HCl. With the protein removed, “melanin'was only slightly soluble in 0.05N NaOH. Radioactivity was also distributed in aspartic acid, glutamic acid and lysine of the feather keratin.
