Abstract
Summary
Amelioration of experimental canine ascites produced by supradiaphragmatic caval constriction occurred in 7 of 8 dogs following total thyroidectomy. This improvement was accompanied by increase in sodium and water excretion. Dogs treated by a sham operation exhibited neither a natruresis nor relief of their ascites. Possible mechanisms to explain these results are discussed.
