Abstract
This article demonstrates how Catholic teachings on homosexuality are moderated by the Benedictine values of respect and hospitality at St. John's University. The author details efforts to incorporate gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) topics in the curriculum and support for GLBT students in residential life and student development. The author includes resources available at other Catholic and secular colleges available to GLBT students. Comments by gay students offer their perspective on their treatment by the college administration and their peers. The author offers recommendations to increase support for and retention of GLBT students, faculty, and staff.
