Abstract
This article explores the understanding of sexuality and body image in schools by heterosexual and homosexual high school teachers. Machismo or traditional masculinity rejects those who do not conform to the dominant paradigm of the ideal heterosexual body, and those who are unaware of this marginalization commit symbolic violence, so new school policies are required. Throughout this article, the concept of “habitus” (Bourdieu, 1984), that is, a person's individualized encoded beliefs and strategies for action, is used to explain how making homosexual role models more visible in school can encourage acceptance.
