Abstract
The National Health and Medical Research Council (NH&MRC) has recently published clinical practice guidelines for the management of depression in young people [1]. The objective of the guidelines is clearly stated by Professor Smallwood, Chairman of the NH&MRC, in the foreword: not only to assist practitioners to make decisions about appropriate health care for specific clinical circumstances, but also to assist consumers by providing them with comprehensive information about choices available in their treatment. The guidelines are of relevance to most psychiatrists. Since I was the College nominee in the Working Group, I think it is worthwhile informing my colleagues of these developments. However, these are my opinions and do not represent the views of the College, the Working Group or the NH&MRC.
