Abstract
The characteristics of students who become anxious with examinations are presented and defined. The concept of anxiety is clarified and examples are drawn from case material. It is thought that students presenting to health and counselling services identify a population of vulnerable students with psychological problems. There is a need for a mental health approach to be adopted to this problem. Preventive aspects are explored from the point of view of the student, the services and the faculties, and the collaboration between these groups.
