Abstract
The support for educational research in Canada has historically lagged far behind the support for educational research in other similarly developed countries. In this paper, the steps taken to redress this situation are briefly described. The effect is dramatic; since 1979–80, federal support for self-initiated, non-contractual research in education has increased from C$126,000 to more than C$1.7 million.1
