Abstract
This obituary of R. B. Cattell (1905–1998) describes briefly some of the evidence underlying the judgment that Cattell was one of the half dozen greatest psychologists of the twentieth century and also portrays the gentle thoughtful man he was as a family member, friend, and colleague.
