Abstract
In a telephone survey, 50 managers were interviewed about ISO quality certificates, i.e., certificates which guarantee that products and processes meet prescribed standards. Most measures were single-item scores. Perceptions that other organizations exert pressure to certify may lead to psychological reactance but did not co-vary with striving for higher quality management (Total Quality Management, TQM). Striving for TQM correlated significantly with ratings for Red Tape and Efficiency as possible consequences of ISO certification (correlations are, respectively, −.25 and .37).
