From 315 abstracts from Psychological Abstracts (January 1990-February 1996), the modal current study dealing with premenstrual syndrome or tension has a within-subjects design and includes 20 to 80 nonpathological subjects. Conclusions based on prospective self-reports are that negative psychological and somatic ratings increase premenstrually or menstrually and that changes are more pronounced (and scores higher) for groups who are identified with symptoms.
