The preponderance of males in violence was observed in 82.1% of 2,822 victims of assault (treated for injuries at the emergency unit of a hospital). Sex differences were found for site of occurrence of the violent act. Women became victims of violence most frequently (34.6%) at home and men in the street (29.3%).
