Abstract
Data were collected from files of 129 children who had been administered the WISC—R and whose mothers had completed the Personality Inventory for Children. A prior high correlation between the Somatic Concern scale and WISC—R Third Factor was not replicated, but the cognitive triad of the Personality Inventory for Children correlated − 49 to − .27 with all the WISC—R IQs. Comparing a two-subtest (Arithmetic, Digit Span) Third Factor versus the traditional three-subtest triad produced comparable results, supporting the redefined Third Factor of the WISC-III.
