This work extended Bakan's (1966) duality of agency-communion to the realm of emotionally significant sexual memories. Following Carlson (1971), 96 students' recollections of sexual memories associated with positive emotions were largely communal in nature, whereas sexual memories associated with negative emotions were largely agentic.
