Analysis of data from the Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek in the Netherlands showed that the suicide rate by domestic gas dropped from 1959 to 1975 as the percentage of carbon monoxide in domestic gas was reduced. Suicide by all other methods rose more sharply during the latter part of this period, suggesting that people may have switched methods for suicide.
