Abstract
This study evaluated the use of two questionnaires to assess the motivation of regular and occasional gamblers playing video-poker machines. Subjects (22 men and 8 women) participated in three sessions of video-poker. One questionnaire was administered during gaming activities while the other was completed at the end of each session. It was predicted that responses on both questionnaires would distinguish between the motivation of regular and occasional gamblers and that regular gamblers would show stronger motivation than the latter group. Both hypotheses were confirmed. The implications of these results are discussed.
