Candidates' competence and sociability scores did not change significantly after 131 undergraduates viewed a televised political debate between two candidates. Three personal attributes of candidates—character, composure, and extroversion—changed significantly. Viewed in light of final election results, this study suggests that the latter three variables may overshadow competence.
