Abstract
83 families were surveyed to assess whether parents were aware of problems with their children's television watching and the extent to which the parents tried to remedy the situation. Analysis indicated that children watched an average of 6.5 hr. per week more than their parents wished. Also, the parents had tried to reduce the amounts of television viewing by placing limits on the location of the set or the hours of viewing permitted, by making viewing conditional upon first completing some prosocial act, or by fighting with their children.
