The performance of 81 partially hearing children of both sexes between the ages of 5 and 17 yr. on several cognitive tests was investigated for effective use of time. Various age groups gained significantly fewer time bonuses for Arithmetical Reasoning, a verbal test demanding abstraction of a high order than for other nonverbal tests making use of more concrete stimuli. Also the proportion of responses which were awarded time bonuses on all tests increased with age.
