Abstract
Of students enrolled in an introductory psychology course 550 received traditional lecture-based instruction and 232 instruction in which lectures were accompanied by unit testing to mastery and student proctors. A comparison of students' performance and attitudes showed that those given the modified format performed significantly better, rated the course significantly more positively, and had a lower dropout rate than students in the traditional course.
