Nonorganic infertility is a significant source of psychological and physical suffering The literature on the problem is inconsistent, inconclusive or methodologically flawed. Primary among the difficulties are an early and continuing psychoanalytical focus on women only, lack of attention to men and the systematic nature of infertility, and for the few outcome studies that have been done, large attrition, very small samples, and confused or unclear criteria for judgment.
