This study examined the Type A behavior pattern of 80 indidividuals who participated in a simulation in which they acted in either a cooperative or a competitive manner. Correlations of Type A behavior scores with the tendency to compete were small but significant and positive. These findings were consistent with the existing literature on the Type A behavior pattern but suggested that the competitiveness of this pattern may exist for situations in which competition is inappropriate.
