Abstract
The goal was to establish the higher-level factors common to the MMPI and to the 16 PF inventories. The results could provide evidence of the equivalence of description terms and facilitate score-profile interpretation. A sample of detoxified alcohol dependent inpatients were administered the MMPI and the 16 PF (Form A). The scale intercorrelations were analyzed by the method of principal components and rotated both orthogonally and obliquely. The seven factors isolated were interpreted as Ego Strength, Exvia, Superego, Conservative-Cautious, Tough-minded, Self-sufficiency, and MMPI Pathology. These findings agree closely on four dimensions reported by LaForge and O'Dell-Karson, so the forms are best utilized to complement each other.
