Abstract
The clinical utility and validity of Psychological Inventory of Personality and Symptoms, a new test of psychopathology based on the descriptors and criteria of the DSM-III, was assessed on an inpatient psychiatric unit of a public hospital. Clinicians rated the interpretive profile in terms of its over-all utility and accuracy in clinical usefulness. The mean over-all rating was 5.3, with 83% of these ratings being above average in clinical usefulness. It was concluded that the inventory shows promise as a useful assessment device.
