Abstract
This study investigated the career anchors of Type A managers. 122 male and female managers in the early stages of their careers completed the Jenkins Activity Survey, a widely-used paper-and-pencil measure of Type A behavior, and a newly created measure of career anchors or orientations. Two Jenkins scales (Type A, Hard Driving) were positively related to Managerial, Identity-Status, Variety, and Creativity career anchors. The Type A scale was negatively related to the Technical-Functional career anchor. However, significant differences between men and women were found. Among women, higher scores on the Jenkins' scales were always positively correlated with a wide variety of career anchors. Among men, higher scores were always positively related to the Managerial career anchor but negatively related to other career anchors.
