Abstract
The perspectival view presents an alternative approach for understanding psychological phenomena to the objective framework generally maintained by contemporary psychology. The basis of the perspectival view is the direct relation between the experiencing individual and the world. Central issues in the objective framework, i.e., public versus private experience, reliability, validity, and utility, change meaning in the proposed view. This view concerns understanding the psychological phenomenon studied in its context, including the manner of the phenomenon's direct relation to the investigator.
