To investigate possible differential effects of consistent and inconsistent ratings, 100 college students rated their instructors on 7 dimensions using a mixed-standard scale format. Dimensional means for consistent ratings were generally higher than those for inconsistent ratings. Consistent ratings were also more strongly related to an over-all evaluation of the instructor. It was recommended that more attention be given the freqency of inconsistent ratings in research on mixed-standard scales.
