Numerous studies have reported that in elderly Down's Syndrome individuals there is a high preponderance of senile dementia. An examination of these investigations shows that, while there is accelerated neurological aging, there is not a high incidence of behavioral or overt senile dementia. Changes in cognitive functioning for Down's Syndrome persons are similar to those found in non-Down's retarded populations.
