Abstract
To predict changes in social attitudes by community development programs in India, a control group with no community project program and experimental groups with 3, 7, 10, 21, and 24 yr. of development work were selected. Adult male subjects from 24 villages were administered a social-distance scale at different intervals for several years. Using the number of years of project work as a predictor variable and social-distance scores as the criterion variable, predictions were made for the 24-yr. group by linear and curvilinear models. Although the curvilinear model showed the best mathematical fit, the linear model showed a more accurate prediction than the curvilinear model when compared with the actual obtained scores for the 24-yr. group.
