Abstract
Modification of smoking behaviour was studied in a 3 × 2 factorial design, one of the variables being the setting of targets in the treatment procedure either by self or therapist ('self vs ‘therapist-paced') and the other was of Health Locus of Control. 60 subjects were recruited to take part in an 11-wk. programme of smoking reduction. ‘Therapist-paced’ target setting was considered to have considerable potential as a way of modifying existing self-control programmes with the emphasis more on therapist's intervention or direction.
