Abstract
Numerous investigations have studied the effects of a wide range of variables on susceptibility. Of particular interest was the influence of concentration on hypnotizability and the usefulness of hypnosis in increasing concentration and attention. Analysis suggested that a subject's ability to concentrate and focus attention is not related to susceptibility. Also, inconclusive evidence was gathered for the usefulness of hypnosis to increase a subject's ability to focus attention on specific stimuli. Recommendations for future research are provided.
