Abstract
An exteroceptive feedback stimulus was practically equivalent to the traditional contingency of warning-signal-termination in shuttlebox-avoidance behavior even during 30-sec. intertrial-intervals for Fisher344 rats. Supernormal acquisition was obtained when both events occurred together. Inconsistent with many previous findings, however, rats performed rather well under the delayed termination of the warning signal alone. This result raises serious questions about contingent reinforcement of termination of the warning signal.
