Abstract
A brief review of the literature shows marginality to be both a characteristic of certain roles which function between two or more groups and a personal orientation with respect to such roles. The variables known to be related to marginality are identified. Eysenck's (1967) personality dimensions of extraversion and neuroticism (emotionality) are related conceptually to marginality orientation. Inverse relationships are hypothesized between marginal orientation and both extraversion and neuroticism. The results support the hypothesized inverse correlation between marginal orientation and extraversion. The proposed inverse relationship between marginal orientation and neuroticism is not supported. The implications of these findings are briefly discussed.
