Abstract
27 supervisors of nursing personnel and 270 of their subordinates described interviews in which performance was reviewed. 8 process characteristics and 6 outcomes were examined. Most of these measures were previously used in investigations of subordinates' experiences. 4 process characteristics were significantly related to most of the outcome variables. Supervisors and subordinates showed high agreement on the characteristics of effective reviews of performance. Implications for enhancing effects of training programs for developing skills in conducting interviews in which performance is reviewed are proposed.
