Self-evaluation procedure was identified as a variable potentially affecting errors in self-reinforcement. 60 subjects learned a discrimination task to criterion and then self-evaluated and self-reinforced in the absence of external reinforcement. Three self-evaluation procedures were employed, overt, covert, and no self-evaluation. Explicit procedures led to greater conservatism in administering self-reinforcement.
