Responses of 51 normal, healthy volunteers were studied using psychological test scales, demographic information, a personal habits questionnaire, and a questionnaire of 27 psychophysiological symptoms measuring both frequency and severity of symptoms. The presence of self-reported symptoms was positively related to response on a psychological scale measuring a transient emotional state. In contrast, the perception of severity of symptoms was more dependent on a stable personality trait.
