Three review articles on the Personal Orientation Inventory suggest that the Profile Sheet for this test is based on the scores of entering college freshmen. Shostrom stated however that the Profile Sheet was based on the performance of a normal adult sample. An examination of the manual indicates that the reviewers are wrong; however, the group which appears to have served initially as the basis for the construction of the Profile Sheet is itself poorly defined and open to criticism.
