Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to examine the effect of intelligence and psychiatric status on consistency of response on the MMPI for 160 psychiatric inpatients. F Scale scores and response consistency (TR) scores were examined. Random response patterns tended to be more prevalent in those protocols with F Scale elevations and in those groups who were either psychotic or of low intelligence. Data suggest the TR index of response consistency is a potentially useful adjunct to traditional MMPI indices.
