The comprehension section of the Nelson-Denny reading test was administered to 84 undergraduate participants who then read an 1800-word passage and were required to write free-recall summaries of what they had read. Participants were separated into quartiles for the data analysis with comparisons made between the upper and lower quartiles. Significant differences between the upper and lower quartiles were observed for both structural and thematicity measures of the free-recall passages.
