The McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities and the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test were individually administered to 41 kindergarten-aged children. Correlations and mean comparisons of the two instruments were reported. The Peabody correlated significantly with the Verbal scale (r = .536), the General Cognitive Index (r = .473), and the Memory scale (r = .354). There were no significant differences between the Peabody and the General Cognitive Index. Implications for the use of the two tests were discussed.
