Abstract
The Sex Stereotype Measure II, a children's picture-story technique, was administered to 24 female and 24 male preschool children (mean age = 47 mo.). The preschoolers displayed minimal knowledge of adult sex stereotypes and less than that shown previously by kindergartners. In line with findings for kindergarten children (a) girls and boys did not differ in total sex-stereotype score and (b) boys' knowledge of the male stereotype was greater than that of the female stereotype, whereas girls displayed more even knowledge of the two.
