Abstract
Using a multidimensional model of creativity, a study was made of the personality traits that differentiate black subjects high on figural originality and elaboration from those who are low. To 392 black undergraduates we administered Figural Form A of the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking and questionnaires, What Kind of Person Are You and Something About Myself. Using the upper and lower 27% for an item analysis, 10 and 12 items differentiated the high and low original thinkers on What Kind of Person Are You and Something About Myself, respectively, while high and low elaborators were differentiated on 9 and 13 items, respectively. The findings seem to corroborate the prevailing opinion that different personality traits are associated with figural originality and elaboration.
