Abstract
To test if feeling of improvement hinders the progress of a flooding procedure 60 students participated in an experiment on aversive conditioning. The conditioned aversive stimuli belonged to a class of objects, which were either pictures, words, or the solutions of 20 anagrams. During the flooding-analogue, treated subjects unlearned their avoidance responses to the aversive stimuli while they were informed about their progress by means of fake physiological feedback. Results indicated that feeling of improvement supported the flooding-analogue treatment.
