Abstract
Examining the distribution of various offenses among various psychiatric diagnosis armed robbery was the leading offense among the total sample of 451 indicted felons adjudicated unfit to stand trial as well as among those 347 diagnosed as suffering from schizophrenia and 39 personality disorders. Schizophrenia was the leading psychiatric diagnosis among the total population as well as among the accused for each and every type of offense except arson. Organic brain syndromes were associated exclusively with crimes of high degree of violence, whereas mental retardation was found primarily among those accused of minor crimes.
