Abstract
The Maryland Parent Attitude Survey developed by Pumroy was employed to study child-rearing attitudes of mothers of normal and developmentally delayed preschool-aged children. Data were collected from 167 mothers of normal children and 55 mothers and 38 fathers of children with a mild to moderate delay. Because Pumroy's original non-parent normative data were not consistent with findings for our sample, all the scores of the parents of the developmentally delayed children were compared with new normative data collected from the mothers of the non-handicapped children. Differences between the two groups of mothers were found on two of the four scales but no significant differences were found between the scores of mothers and fathers of the delayed children across the scales. Further examination of the data supported findings previously described in the literature.
